How to Mark Your Paper Ballot

To mark your ballot correctly, COMPLETELY fill in the OVAL next to your choice with blue or black ink. Any other mark may not be read by the scanner. FS.101.5611

Casting Your Ballot

Hernando County uses an optical scan voting system called ImageCast Evolution (ICE) Tabulation System. This Voting System uses paper ballots. At the polling place an Election Worker issues a paper ballot to the voter and directs the voter to a private voting booth. The voter marks the ballot with the marking pen provided in the booth, proceeds to the ballot box and inserts the voted ballot into the ICE unit. FS.101.56075

Correcting a Mistake on Your Ballot

If you make a mistake on your ballot, do not erase or use white out. If you are voting at your polling place, ask for a replacement ballot. Prior to the casting of the ballot, each voter is allowed up to two (2) replacement ballots for a total of three (3) ballots. If you are using a Vote-by-Mail ballot and you make a mistake on your ballot, call the Elections Office at (352)754-4125 for further instructions. FS.101.5608(2)(b)

Accessbile Voting

The Elections office offers accessible voting sessions. Accessible voting sessions allow persons who are blind or visually impaired to vote independently by using an external monitor, audio headset and a handheld device to make their selections. These ADA compliant sessions will be available at each early voting site and polling location. FS.101.56062

Provisional Ballots

Reasons for issuing a provisional ballot:

  • Voter is unable to provide photo and signature ID
  • Voter's eligibility status is in question.
  • A challenge has been made about the eligibility of a voter.

A provisional ballot is sealed in a provisional ballot envelope and is kept separate from regular ballots. The county canvassing board is responsible for examining the provisional ballot envelope and making a determination as to the voter's eligibility.



Polls are open from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. on Election Day. The name and address of your polling location is printed on your voter information card. You must provide photo and signature identification in order to vote. Both photo and signature may be on one ID or they may be on two seperate forms of ID.

Acceptable forms of identification:

  • Florida Driver's License
  • Florida ID
  • Debit or Credit Card
  • Retirement Center ID
  • Neighborhood Association ID
  • Public Assistance ID
  • Florida Concealed Weapon or Firearm License

NOTE TO VOTER:

If a voter is unable to provide photo an signature identification, the voter will be allowed to cast a provisional ballot. Provisional ballots provide a safeguard to voters eligibility is in question. Provsional ballots may be issued at early voting sites prior to Election Day or at polling locations on Election Day.
