Registration
Requirements
To register to vote you must be:
- at least 18 years old (you may pre-register at 16)
- a United States Citizen
- a resident of Hernando County
- not adjudicated mentally incapacitated with respect to voting or
your competency has been restored
- not convicted of a felony or your rights relating to voting have
been restored
To register to vote you must complete a voter registration application.
You may obtain a voter registration application at:
- The Supervisor of Elections office
- The Department of Motor Vehicles
- Public Libraries
- Social Service Agencies
- Post Offices
OR
- You may call the Supervisor of Elections office and have an
application mailed to you
- You may

Registration requires an original signature therefore the online
registration form must be printed out, signed and returned to the
Hernando County Supervisor of Elections.
Once your application has been processed, you will receive a voter
information card in approximately 30 days.
New Registrants to the County : Additional Requirements
When Registering by Mail
As a result of the enactment of the 2002
Help America Vote Act by the United States Congress, Florida law (97.0535,
Florida Statutes) now has new requirements for anyone who registers by
mail in a county in which they have never been previously registered. A
copy of your current and valid identification must be provided unless you
are exempt from this requirement. For details on identification

Registration Deadlines
Registration books close 29 days before any election. All new
registration applications and party change requests must be received by
the Supervisor of Elections or postmarked on or before that date to be
eligible to vote in the election.
2008 Presidential Preference Primary :
Register on or before Dec. 31, 2007
2008 First Primary : Register on or before July 28, 2008
2008 General Election : Register on or before Oct. 6, 2008
Registration Changes
IT IS IMPORTANT TO KEEP YOUR VOTER REGISTRATION
RECORD CURRENT!
If you need to change your address, name, or
party affiliation, you may complete the voter registration application and
send a to the Supervisor of Elections
office.
You may also complete the voter registration application or
send a written, signed request to the Supervisor of Elections office if
you would like to replace a lost, stolen, or defaced voter information
card.

Public
Records
Exemption
Section 119.07(3)(i)(1)(2)(3), Florida Statutes,
provides that certain records pertaining to specified personnel are exempt
from the public records law and will not be subject to disclosure except
for official business. The statute specifically exempts:

Active or former law enforcement
personnel, including correctional and correctional probation officers,
personnel of the Department of Children and Family Services whose duties
include the investigation of abuse, neglect, exploitation, fraud, theft,
or other criminal activities.

Personnel of the Department of
Health whose duties are to support the investigation of child abuse or
neglect, and personnel of the Department of Revenue or local governments
whose responsibilities include revenue collection and enforcement or
child support enforcement;

Firefighters certified in
compliance with s.
633.35.

Justices of the Supreme Court,
district court of appeal judges, circuit court judges, and county court
judges.

Current or former state attorneys,
assistant state attorneys, statewide prosecutors, or assistant statewide
prosecutors spouses and children of current or former state attorneys,
assistant state attorneys, statewide prosecutors, or assistant statewide
prosecutors;.
-
Current or former human resource,
labor relations, or employee relations directors, assistant directors,
managers, or assistant managers of any local government agency or water
management district whose duties include hiring and firing employees,
labor contract negotiation, administration, or other personnel-related
duties.

Current or former code enforcement
officers.
The information considered to be confidential includes home addresses,
telephone numbers, social security numbers, and photographs. These items
are confidential for the spouses and children of such personnel as well as
their place of employment. Furthermore, the names and locations of schools
and day care facilities attended by the children of such personnel are
exempt from the public records law.
