Registration Information



To register to vote in Hernando County you must be:

  • At least 18 years old (You may pre-register at 16 years old)
  • A United States citizen
  • A resident of Hernando County
  • Not convicted of a felony (Or if you were, your rights relating to voting have been restored.)
  • Not adjudicated mentally incapacitated with respect to voting (Or if you have been, your competency has been restored.)

To register to vote you must complete a voter registration application.

  • The Supervisor of Elections Office
  • The Department of Motor Vehicles
  • Social service agencies
  • Public libraries
  • Call the Supervisor of Elections office and request that an application be mailed to you

It is important to keep the following information in your voter registration record current:

  • Residence Address
  • Mailing Address
  • Name
  • Party Affiliation
  • Signature
  • Driver's License or Last 4 of SSN

If you need to update your address, you may do so in one of the following ways:

  1. 1. Call the elections office at 352-754-4125
  2. 2. Complete a voter registration application and return it to the elections office in person or by mail
  3. 3. Update your record using online voter registration
  • Name
  • New residence address
  • New mailing address
  • Voter registration number or date of birth
  • Driver's license or last 4 of SSN

Florida is a closed primary state. This means that whatever party a voter is registered as, that is the ballot they will receive when voting during any Primary Election. A registered Democrat will receive only a ballot that has a Democratic candidates and a registered Republic will only receive a ballot that has Republican candidates. Anyone who is registered under No Party Affiliation (NPA) or any minor parties will only receive school board and judicial contests as well as non-partisan or universal primary contests.
